Pig farmers are and always will be in control of their data. The pig farmer can manage his authorizations via JoinData. Who can access his data and for which purpose? “There is an increasing demand for sharing data. We make sure that only chain partners for whom the pig farmer has given an authorization, will be able to use that data,” says Hanneke Burggraaff, who works at JoinData. The data on the blockchain is processed only as described in the authorization issued in JoinData. On the blockchain platform, the pig farmer can see into detail what data is being shared with who.
Encrypted data
Within a blockchain network the parties together agree on the data sharing. All data on the blockchain is encrypted and everybody in the network can make his data insightful to other parties, via authorizations. No one is able to adjust the data. The pig farmer retains the ownership of the data and decides who can access the data. The requesting party can use the data only for the goal requested. This is specified in law.
The added value of sharing data
Pig farmers have huge amounts of data. The smarter we share the data, the more new techniques and insights arise. Converting the data into information allows one to take better decisions. “It all starts with awareness: whom do you share data with, for what purpose, and does it generate added value for you and your chain parties,” informs Hanneke.
“As a chain partner, we request an authorization for sharing data for a specific goal, like the Vion Rendement Index,” explains Mariska the Rooij, working at Vion. The VRI was built on blockchain technology, a technology that encrypts data and provides access only to parties who were given authorization. “Using the VRI, a pig farmer gains insight in his performance in the chain. A good example of chain partnership, to improve the results and enhance transparency,” says Mariska.
Approval and guarantee
“If the pig farmer approves the authorization, the blockchain will retrieve the data via JoinData,” Hanneke explains. With JoinData, the pig farmer can easily access and manage the authorizations for sharing his data. He can activate or withdraw authorizations at any time. Every authorization includes the goal for which the data is being shared and the pig farmer can personally indicate for which period he wishes to share his data.
