Wageningen – 6 February 2020 – Producenten Organisatie Varkenshouderij (POV), an organization representing the interests of the collective pig farming sector, became a member of the nonprofit data cooperative JoinData on 3 February. With this membership, POV underlines the importance of a transparent and safe data highway for its members, whereby the farmer takes the helm when it comes to the right of disposal of his/her data.
Agricultural entrepreneurs are sharing more and more data with various parties for their own business operations and for other links in the chain. But how does the farmer keep an overview of the data being shared, whether the data is being shared safely and, above all, what it is being shared for?
JoinData is a data cooperative established to put farmers at the helm of the right of disposal of their data. After all, in My JoinData, the agricultural entrepreneur can arrange with which parties he or she wants to share data and for what purpose.
JoinData’s mission fits seamlessly with what POV wants to achieve for its members: a strong position in the chain. The safe and transparent sharing of data is a means to achieve this goal. Given the growing importance of data, it is a logical step for POV to join JoinData.
“Chains will become more efficient and shorter in the coming years, with the farmer playing a crucial role in sharing knowledge and information all the way up to the consumer. By collaborating with JoinData as an independent cooperative to share and manage data, POV aims to substantially improve the data position of Dutch pig farmers in the chain. This is part of the actions of the Action Program for the Vitalization of Pig Farming”, Linda Janssen, POV chair.
“Current developments show that the transition to a new form of sustainable agriculture is in full swing. The pig farming sector is also in a state of flux, with POV working hard to put entrepreneurs in control. A shared vision and cooperation are essential for a successful transition. We are delighted to have joined forces for a future-proof sector,” says Ton Loman, JoinData chairman.
