“JoinData has few links in the chain, which makes it robust and clear”
Anne Pasman works as technical product manager at CRV. Together with a team of programmers and testers, he works on the technical development of CRV information products such as Ovalert, the pedometer concept, links with other parties and other information products that farmers can use for their farm management.
CRV is one of the three founding fathers of JoinData. There was a need within these organizations to easily share data with other parties in order to support farmers in their business processes. And to have the permissions for those links neatly secured.
CRV provides data
Through JoinData, CRV provides data such as registration dates (births, supply and distribution of cattle), fertility data (inseminations, gestation, etc.) and milk data (including the levels per cow, lactations, etc.). Via CRV’s management program, Veemanager, farmers can enter the data about the cow themselves. Anne and his team are currently working on the link with Lely, where Joindata is the ‘lock’, where it is managed whether the data can be retrieved and whether the farmer has authorized this.
Ongoing process
Anne sees the development of JoinData as an ongoing process. “Two years ago, a link was made from CRV to the SenseHub pedometer system of SCR, an Israeli company, via JoinData. Now we are in the process of creating a link with Lely via JoinData. Such links take a lot of work now, but once it’s up and running, other parties can easily be linked to it as well.”

Clear, fast and robust
Anne sees JoinData as a clear system. “The great advantage of JoinData, I think, is that it is only a conduit. There are no other parties involved, so the system is clearer. It also works with standards, so that all connected parties can offer and/or retrieve data in the same way. The system is also faster. With Lely, we are now working on real-time insight for livestock farmers. Previously, the system had to synchronize several times a day. Now, an adjustment of the farmer is visible in CRV’s system in real time, or vice versa from CRV in the other system. We are still developing and, of course, it all has to be proven in practice, but to me the system looks much more robust this way. There are fewer links in the chain.”
Livestock farmer in control
The product manager mentions that he sometimes speaks to livestock farmers who are a bit hesitant about sharing data via JoinData: “With JoinData, the livestock farmer is truly in control. They determine who is allowed to retrieve which data and have a clear overview of this in one central place. I expect more companies to join JoinData in the future. Think of more feed companies, dairy organizations and accountancy firms. And the more of them join, the better the system will work for the farmer.”
